Indonesia has uncountable regional dishes that have become internationally famous dishes. Let’s take as an example: Satay. It’s a very famous dish in Indonesia which meat is attached to a very thin bamboo stick as in the picture on the left.
And the recipe of Satay is not limited to one type only. Now I will show the best two types I prefer from Indonesian Satay recipes.
For example in this first image you can see the Satay type from Java Island (specially from Ponorogo, East Java) made of grilled chicken.
The recipe from the island of Java for Chicken Satay or in Indonesian language, Sate Ayam, focuses on marinating the chicken in Indonesian famous sweet soy sauce (kecap manis) and after that, grilling the chicken.
Then, after it’s completely grilled, the satay (sate ayam) can be eaten as the side dish to white rice or sticky rice (lontong in Indonesian). The chicken satay is usually completed with peanut sauce mixed with chili and lime water. Or maybe, you can only mix peanut sauce and lime water for those who prefer not to eat spicy food.
This first recipe for Satay is not only famous in Indonesia but it has also been famous as special culinary tradition or famous dish from Indonesia.
Besides the regional recipe of Satay from Java Island, Indonesians also have the another tasty recipe from the city of Padang, West Sumatra, that they call Sate Padang, or Padang Satay.
This one is my first favorite actually before the recipe I wrote above no matter I guess the Java Satay is more famous internationally.
Sate Padang has very particular and unique yellow sauce that tastes special on the tongue according to me.
This yellow sauce is made of traditional healthy spices such as ginger, turmeric, coriander, garlic, some curry powder etc that have made the sauce and satay itself grow stronger in taste.
And as the other satay recipe, this is also a great side dish to accompany Lontong (Indonesian sticky rice) or normal rice. So, which one would you try first 😉 ?
