I’m someone who always enjoys street food and the delicious offer it gives. This is one of my favourites one, Tahu Gejrot or Gejrot Tofu. This food is one of famous Indonesian street food that we can find but even if it is called street food, it can also be found in the menu list of well-known Indonesian restaurants and also at the malls in Indonesia at the stands.
Gejrot Tofu is surely composed of Tofu as one of its main ingredients in the recipe. However, there are the special stuffs that we have to add to make sure the taste is as unique as its name.
The most important is its sauce, which is made of onions such as garlic and shallots. And certainly, we should also include Indonesian famous sweet black soy sauce, kecap manis as this is what makes it traditionally Indonesian.
More, we also use the palm sugar to add into the sauce. However, it doesn’t mean that the dish is sweet just because it contains sweet soy sauce and palm sugar inside the sauce. Nope, because it also uses salt and most importantly, many Indonesians and spicy food lovers will add the burning Indonesian Chili that will bite the tongue. I guarantee there is nothing sweet with that 😉
I know that many claim street food as unhealthy. BUT, if we make it ourselves at home from ingredients until it’s ready on the table, there is nothing unhealthy about it as homemade is always better. And now talking about it, I feel the will to make this within the next few days 😀
So if you ever visit Indonesia or want to give it a try, don’t hesitate. But make sure you buy it in the restaurants as some stomach owners may not be adapted to street food 🙂
