IWD 2015 – Happy International Women’s Day

Mimosa
Mimosa – The symbol of women’s day in Italy
Gender equality is more than a goal in itself. It is a precondition for meeting the challenge of reducing poverty, promoting sustainable development and building good governance” – Kofi Annan
March 8 is celebrated as international women’s day worldwide. Here in Italy, it’s symbolized by giving women a yellow flower named Mimosa and sometimes, chocolate.

The Mimosa flower is widely used as women’s day celebration not only in Italy but also in some other countries like Russia for example.

On this women’s day 2015, I would like to greet all of you happy women’s day. May this day not be celebrated as only one day festival.

However, may it be remembered as a reminder that women development and equality are also one of the main keys for the future sustainability.

Discrimination against women has existed from long time ago. But gladly, it has also decreased during the last decades in many countries.

Let’s hope that in later stage, the empowerment to women could become a global aim in all countries and may we all have the equality between genders with mutual respect between men and women.

Happy Women’s Day 2015 everyone! I hope you’d have a memorable celebration with your moms. wives, lovers , fiances, girlfriends, sisters, daughters, or any woman you have relationships with! Greetings – Dewi Wihardja πŸ™‚
