When the fresher season like autumn has arrived, one of the most important things is to eat good food that can warm ourselves up. In summer, we ate lighter food as the weather is hot. On the other hand, seasons such as autumn and winter are the perfect moments to eat “heavier” stuffs like creamy dishes and dishes with lots of cheese.
In Italy, it’s very easy to find these dishes as they have 300 different types of cheese to prepare their food. There are lots of Italian food that look creamy and warm enough for the low temperature. Let’s take a look on what I have in mind.
In my opinion, Italian rice dishes are suitable for cold seasons like autumn and winter (later) because they are cooked with risotto style that includes chicken broth, butter and white wine in the recipes. The appearance of risotti italiani is always creamy when they are ready to serve.
My favorite Italian rice dishes (risotti) are risotto with porcini mushrooms and risotto Milanese with saffron (added with parmesan cheese on top). Not only they are delicious, eating them while they are still hot could give the perfect feeling in cold weather.
For pasta lovers, creamy pasta is a great companion for cold season. Among Italian pasta dishes, the most known creamy pasta are pasta carbonara (spaghetti carbonara) made with egg and pecorino cheese plus creamy pasta with panna and salmon. The pasta dish with salmon is definitely the one I prefer more.
Panna usually used to prepare creamy pasta is panna da cucina, the cream used to cook many Italian dishes. Italians also have the other panna type used to make desserts. Therefore, it’s necessary to choose the right panna to cook the pasta.
The proper mealtime in Italy always has tasty desserts included. During autumn and winter, we wouldn’t want to miss creamy desserts. Based on my experience and preference, the excellent desserts that I can enjoy during this period are Italian tiramisu or cheesecakes that have many different flavors.
Tiramisu is a dessert made of coffee, egg, cocoa powder (on top) and mascarpone (a type of Italian cheese from cream). The word Tiramisu itself literally means lift me up, coming from two words, tirami su. Additionally, for those loving Italian coffee, having warm cappuccino is also ideal during cold weather.
So, those are my list, which is one of the reasons why I enjoy cold weather better. During the beautiful moments of autumn and winter, these Italian dishes are always tempting to eat. At least for me, they really are.
What do you think? Do you have your own list of the perfect dishes to welcome autumn and winter?
